I admit, since I found kale in Mexico I’m a little obsessed with this ingredient. Especially after reading all of its fabulous properties; I am most interested in its amazingly high vitamin K content. Although I do a lot of exercise, I’m one of those people who will get a bruise only by a smooth pressing. I suffer when I have to wear skirts or shorts.

Flu_Shot_Kale_Smoothie2Looking for kale recipes, I found a smoothie that supposedly is like a flu shot. At this time of year, I will do anything to not get sick from the flu, I begin to take vitamin C at the beginning of fall and I eat any type of food that will help me to increase my defenses. The original recipe for the flu shot called for apples, but I replaced it with guava fruits for its high content of vitamin C. I added other ingredients that are also useful in this cold season, such as ginger and mint. The first kale smoothie I tried, didn’t required added sugar, but in this case I thought that a little bit of sweetness was needed, so I added a few tablespoons of agave nectar.

As for the photos, I try to look very artistic and, although I know I’m not an expert in taking food pictures, I wanted to experiment. Actually I felt like the guy from Disney’s Art Attack. The trouble is that I forgot to take a non-artistic photo of the ingredients, and when I was viewing the photos on my computer I realized that I only had took photos with my syringe attempt. Dah! Told you I’m not very good taking food photos.

I think I’m getting better at making kale smoothies. I promise not to bore you all with my experiments with this ingredient. I like to my kale smoothies in the morning and then drink it during the day.
