Guayaba & Blackberry Agua fresca
In the last couple of days we have had a very cold weather in Mexico, well at least for Mexican standards hahaha. Usually on this weather what most people crave is a cup of hot coffee or chocolate. But I think this agua fresca is a very good option for this season because both, the guava fruit and the blackberry, are fruits with a very high content of vitamin C, and as we all know there is nothing better than this vitamin to protect us from a cold. As I had mentioned in the post Guayaba Crème, guava fruits contains four times the amount of vitamin C of an orange.
This agua fresca is very easy to prepare , with only 4 ingredients and all you have to do is blend them. Its color is amazing, intense magenta! In fact the dark blue color from the blackberries, ensures that this fruit has one of the highest antioxidant levels of all fruits.
On this occasion I use regular sugar, but you can use the sweetener of your choice. The trick is to experiment and see which one you like best.
- 400 gr (14 oz) guayaba
- 160 gr (5.6 oz) blackberries
- 2 liters (68 fl oz) water
- 6-10 Tablespoons sugar
- Wash and disinfect the fruits.
- Combine guayabas, blackberries, 500 ml (17 fl oz) water and sugar in a blender.
- Set a fine-mesh sieve over a pitcher. Strain pureé into pitcher. Add the remaining 1.5 liters (51 fl oz) of water and mix well.
- Enjoy!
- You can serve with ice.
