Strawberry & Peach Chia Jam
My everyday breakfast consists of two whole wheat toasts with queso fresco (fresh cheese). But if I find a jam worthwhile, surely the cheese stays in the refrigerator. Lately I’ve seen in several cooking blogs that chia jam is what it’s in fashion nowadays in the breakfast table.
I stop eating jam on my breakfast because I had a hard time finding jams with real fruit in it. The vast majority, or at least the ones I find in the supermarket near my house, are loaded with sugars and artificial flavors. I do prefer more gourmet kind of jams, preferably with a mixture of several fruits and without a lot of added sugar. I like jams to taste like fruit, not like sugar.
I know I can’t complain too much, because to be honest, I get a little lazy when I start thinking about preparing my own jams. Besides, most of the recipes I know, are huge! I always end up with big amounts of jam, and even though I give it as a gift, I always end up with surpluses. So, when I saw recipes for chia jam I noticed that the majority asked for decent amounts of fruits, so I decided to prepare it.
If I can add a super healthy ingredient to my breakfast, I surely want to try that recipe. Chia seeds seem to me the perfect ingredient for that matter; packed with omega-3 fatty acids and a little bit of protein. As I was saying, I like jams with various fruits, so I added a few peaches to give an even more soury taste. And I have to say that I really liked the final result! I have been eating the strawberry & peach chia jam every morning!
A very easy to prepare jam, with a delicious taste delicious and, best of all, it’s super healthy. You will find yourself eating it by the spoonful!

- 456 gr (1 lb) strawberries
- 2 small peaches
- 4 Tablespoons honey
- 3 Tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
- 3 Tablespoons chia seeds
- Wash the fruits. Hull the strawberries and remove the pit from the peaches. Roughly chopped the peaches and the strawberries.
- In a medium sized saucepan, over medium heat, add the peaches and cook for 5 minutes, moving constantly. You only want to soften the peaches, not cook them completely. Add the strawberries, honey and lime juice. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5-7 minutes. With a potato masher, bean masher or fork, squash the mixture until you reach the desired consistency.
- Add the chia seeds. Mix well and cook for 2 minutes.
- Remove from heat, let it cool. Transfer to an air tight container or a glass jar, and refrigerate.
- Enjoy!
Wow! That looks delicious! That is such a great idea… I also despise those over sweetened jams from the store. Most of them list fruit as one of the last ingredients!
Exactly Anne! That’s the good thing about preparing homemade jams.
